Mobius was formed by the merger of two local organizations, SciTech and the Children’s Museum of Spokane, and is dedicated to two endeavors:
Mobius Science Center – A critically needed and citizen requested science and technology center to enhance educational opportunities for lifelong learners.
Mobius Kids – Mobius Kids is a children’s museum for young children and their families to learn through hands-on activities in the arts, culture, and science. The museum offers seven interactive exhibit and gallery areas along with exciting camps, classes & programs, community outreach, and special events.
The Mobius Science Center will be home to nearly 53,000 square feet of science, technology, and entertainment designed to treat visitors to educational opportunities that produce lifelong memories. More than half of the available space will be a blend of permanent and rotating exhibits that reflect the region’s natural and technological resources and showcasing the best of scientific offerings from around the world. The exhibits will educate and inspire people of all ages about science and how it applies to their lives. The facility will also include a state-of-the-art 3-D IMAX theater. Mobius is where science becomes engaging and accessible to every family in the region.
Through Mobius we intend to accomplish the following:
1.) Be a catalyst to support science education in our schools
2.) Serve the region with outreach programming
3.) Spur economic development
4.) Provide a place for vistors and residents to discover the connections between science and technology in relation to the possibilities for the future. Supporters emerge daily, and in addition to your neighbors and friends, our region’s teachers, professors and school districts are also backing Mobius. The State of Washington has already demonstrated its early support of Mobius with $1.5 million to assist with planning and design.
Connecting Riverfront Park, the Spokane River and the heart of downtown Spokane, the Mobius Science Center will be constructed on the river’s north bank at the Michael Anderson Plaza. The center will be an environmentally-friendly building designed by William McDonough + Partners, who are recognized worldwide for providing aesthetic value, ecological intelligence and economic viability through their designs. The center plans also include a large format movie theater and ample, convenient parking.
We are not only building a science center, we're creating a legacy.
